Cursos de Raíces (Raíces Course Offerings)
Raíces Offers Two Types of Courses:
- “Raíces Supported”
- “Learning Colectiva”
Both types of courses are taught by SBCC Faculty who participated in the Raíces Faculty Institute and are committed to the Community of Practice/Aspiriciones de Crecimiento of the Raíces program.
“Raíces Supported” courses are open to all students and our program advisors, academic counselors, and colegas work with the instructor of the course to ensure Raíces scholars have the support needed to be successful.
“Learning Colectiva” courses are “learning community” courses which means they are open to Raíces scholars
and offer an opportunity to strengthen your relationships with other Raíces scholars.
Why enroll in a Raíces Supported course?
Our Raíces supported courses offer the opportunity to engage with students from the board SBCC community, including but not limited to Raíces scholars.
Why enroll in a Learning Colectiva course?
Research has shown that learning community courses enhance students' sense of belonging,
improve academic performance and persistence, and increase student engagement. By
focusing on a specific cohort of students, learning communities intentionally connect
them to one another and to faculty in meaningful ways.
IMPORTANT: All of our “Raíces Supported” or “Learning Colectiva” courses meet SBCC GE, CSU GE, and IGETC/CALGETC requirements.
