Libby holds a BS in geology from UC Santa Barbara, where she was introduced to plenty
of great geology, as well as to the art of map making. Shortly after graduation, Libby
began working on maps and scientific illustrations for publication, eventually becoming
the first digital artist of the Thomas W. Dibblee, Jr. Foundation. It was there, with
Helmut Ehrenspeck, that she pioneered the transition to digital drafting of the Dibblee
maps. In addition to numerous projects for scientific journals, Libby coauthored and
illustrated the popular Roadside Geology series book Roadside Geology of Southern
California as well as illustrated Geology Underfoot of Southern California.
At SBCC, Libby works as the Administrative Assistant for Earth and Planetary Sciences. In this capacity she works closely with faculty to develop instructional resources, primarily for our field program, in the creation and production of maps and technical graphics to illustrate scientific processes and concepts. Libby also provides general assistance to faculty, staff, and students to support all our programs, as well as works to keep our website up to date.
